Janet B. Martin

Janet Martin is the co-owner and president of Lasater & Martin.  Janet is an aggressive, dynamic and highly skilled litigator with a commanding courtroom presence. Janet actively litigates large, complex cases including product liability, construction defect, trucking, and commercial injury matters of all types. She has extensive experience in the state and federal courts throughout Colorado and Texas. Janet heads the construction defect section of the law firm and manages the Texas Office of Lasater & Martin in Las Colinas, which was opened in January 2018.

In addition to Janet’s trial experience, she has extensive appellate experience, and is known as a very skilled negotiator. Janet is passionate about her clients and brings an unmatched level of experience with alternative dispute resolutions, frequently being asked for her opinion on how to resolve cases outside of the courtroom.

Work History

Janet was licensed to practice law in 1989 and began her legal career by clerking for the Texas Court of Appeals for the Second Judicial District. Following her clerkship, she immediately began a very active civil litigation practice in Texas. Janet moved to Colorado in 2001, where she continued her litigation practice and became a named partner at Lasater & Martin in 2004. Janet currently oversees the administration of the firm’s offices in both Colorado and Texas.

In her employment practice, Janet represents employers in state and federal courts for claims involving race discrimination, disability discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, national origin discrimination, age discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, and breach of contract.

  • Janet is frequently asked by her clients to Pro Hac Vice into other states in order to handle millions of dollars in exposure in complex cases. In addition to Colorado and Texas, Janet has litigated cases in Nevada, Wyoming and New Mexico.
