April Moore is an accomplished trial attorney whose successes in the courtroom assist her clients with achieving excellent results before and during trial. Her experience and reputation provide considerable leverage in negotiating favorable settlements when the circumstances warrant. She has over 12 years of legal experience in evaluating, advising, negotiating, and litigating civil matters. April specializes in handling all manner of insurance defense matters, concentrating on product liability, construction defect, employment, insurance coverage, premises liability, catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, and appellate matters.
April has tried more than 50 cases to verdict as first-chair counsel, including jury trials throughout Colorado, trials to the court, arbitrations, and administrative hearings.
Work History:
While attending UCLA School of Law, April interned for a national medical company where she assisted with complex discovery and compliance with Stark Law and the Federal Anti-Kickback statute. After completing law school, April was litigation counsel for a national insurance company where she represented employers and insureds in various personal injury and workers’ compensation matters.
In 2010, April joined Lasater & Martin, P.C.’s insurance defense litigation team. She specializes in product liability, construction defect, employment, insurance coverage, premises liability, catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, and appellate matters. April has represented employers in state and federal courts for claims involving race discrimination, disability discrimination, national origin discrimination, age discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, and breach of contract.
Representative Experience:
- Obtained multiple defense verdicts as first chair counsel in jury trials on behalf of commercial property owners and property management companies in premises liability cases. In each of these cases, the respective plaintiffs were claiming damages exceeding a half million dollars.
- Successfully defended an insurance company as first chair counsel in a subrogation/insurance coverage case in a trial to the court in Boulder Country District Court where the plaintiff insurance company was seeking to recover approximately a half million dollars in damages.
- Represented an individual defendant as first chair counsel in a malicious prosecution and defamation case where the plaintiff was seeking to recover over a million dollars. April obtained not only a defense verdict for her client, she also successfully prosecuted her client’s counterclaims against the plaintiff.
- Prevailed on summary judgment in favor of commercial client in high value property damage action establishing that the Colorado Economic Loss Rule barred plaintiff’s negligence claims, later affirmed on appeal.
- Achieved summary judgment for individual clients in a negligence action where plaintiff asserted that the defendants were responsible for the actions of their adult son.
- Authored countless motions and briefs for summary judgment and to exclude expert testimony in product-liability and insurance cases in various jurisdictions.
- Authored numerous legal opinion letters and memoranda on complex insurance coverage questions for both insurance companies and insureds addressing the interpretation and application of insurance policy language, with a particular emphasis on general-liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
